"Even if they aren't gigantic, the thrill of catching a bass here is unmatched," said Jill Thompson, a fishing guide familiar with the lake's dynamics.
For success in targeting largemouth bass, many anglers suggest focusing efforts on the creek arms surrounding the lake. "Largemouth bass are typically found near brush, standing timber, and other structures, especially in murky waters where they thrive," added local fishing expert Rick Mendoza.
When the time is right, using spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and bladed jigs tends to yield the best results. On challenging days, rigging a green pumpkin Senko, either Texas or wacky-style, becomes a go-to tactic for many.
Conversely, smallmouth bass prefer clearer waters and rocky structures, making main lake points prime fishing spots, especially during water releases from the dam. "It's quite common to hook a smallmouth when the rivers or creeks are flowing, as they can handle the current better than their largemouth counterparts," noted seasoned angler Steve Harper.

In spring, crappies move into shallow waters to spawn and can be caught using minnows, jigs, and small spinners near rock and brush piles.
During summer, post-spawning, they often school around brush piles at depths of 15 to 25 feet. "Jigs and minnows are typically the most effective means for summer crappie fishing, as they are easier to maneuver in deeper waters," Laura explained.
As fall approaches, crappies chase shad back into shallower waters. In winter, crappies exhibit varied habits, sometimes feeding in warmer shallow waters and at other times retreating to deeper locations. "For winter, focus on lures that resemble shad, as well as live minnows, which work well during those cooler months," Laura added.

"Understanding how to distinguish between blue catfish and channel cats is crucial, especially with the different regulations in place for each," advised local angler Tom Robinson.
